If you are looking for a tratitional Portuguese townhouse, full of atmosphere, character and charm, but cleverly mixed with the modern necessities you cant live without. Close to Lagos centre and the beach, but in a quiet area then look no further, this is the one!
This beautiful house, painted white with blue window surrounds, has been lovingly and thoughtfully restored. Its location is superb, set in a quiet cobbled street, close to the Tivoli Hotel and away from the noise of the restaurants and bars, yet only 350 metres (a few minutes’ walk) from Lagos centre.
The focal point of the house is a gorgeous private patio garden complete with ivy covered walls and herbs growing in the borders. The owner has added a touch of the modern with a dining table and chairs, and a Weber BBQ. The perfect spot for sunbathing, reading, surfing the net, relaxing and of course open air dining. To find a house in the centre of Lagos with a patio like this is a true treasure.
On entering the property you immediately feel at home, like the family of swallows who adorn the entrance hall wall, from which the house derives its name. The house retains some of its original features and is full of light due to every room having a window to the outside. The hall, dining / breakfast room and kitchen have beautiful, newly tiled floors which have been cleverly designed to look like the original floor tiles.
The kitchen has a black granite work surface and all the modern appliances that you would expect to find including washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, oven and hob. Windows from the kitchen and the breakfast room look out onto the patio.
A separate hall wraps around from the entrance toward the front of the house and double wooden doors which open into a very light and airy lounge. The floors are all original wood and the walls which are painted in a soft pale blue are decorated with vintage images of Lagos, taken by Lagos photographer António Crisogno dos Santos in the 1930’s. There is a plasma TV, Cable & WIFI. 3 sets of windows open onto the street named after the photographer. When the windows are open the scent of oranges fills the room from the Laranjeira (Orange tree). Lean far enough out and you might just be able to pick an orange straight from the tree.
On the same floor is a bathroom with Shower, WC, vanity unit and 2 doors! One leads back to the breakfast room and one to the hall and lounge!
Wooden stairs lead up to the 2 bedrooms, a twin room and a double room Both have original wrought iron beds, but rest assured the mattresses are new!. In the middle of the 2 is a dressing room, and a WC. The double room and the hallway look out onto the patio, the twin room faces the side and dressing room and WC have views to the front. The windows in the bedrooms have internal wooden shutters, as do the rest of the windows throughout the house.
NOTE, for winter lettings, the owner will supply 2 oil radiators for and additional cost of just €15 per day
